Do the complete switch

For the past few days, I've also been toying with the idea of selling my PC and replacing it with a mac-mini. Yeah, I know how radical that sounds. I've been a Mac user for years. I could completely switch to a mac and not have any thing reminiscent of Intel PCs anymore. But I've never done it. At any point in time when I've had a Mac, I've always had a PC somewhere in the corner of my room. But as I said in my earlier post, many people are doing away with it and I believe that with a little bit of effort, I should succeed in doing the same.

If things work out well, a few weeks from now, I might be posting this straight from my mac-mini. How's that for a switch? :-)

  1. Good for you; the Apple Mac is just an absolutely grat platform. No wonder, it's built on top of BSD. :)

The only thing that has been deterring me from using it is because it's relatively expensive and difficult to get in George, but maybe one day I'll switch over too.

Linux is actually doing it for me, but the hardware compatibility is somtimes a struggle. That's the main reason I want to switch over - because then I can use a stable, secure (non-Windows) platform, with a pretty UI, and I would be running on a flavour of BSD too. Quite ideal actually.

  2. I actually know what you mean. Before I owned my own PowerBook, I used to have a Toshiba laptop on which I dual-booted Windows and Mandrake. I extensively used Linux at the time. However, I had the same problem you've been describing: "making hardware work was a kind of struggle". I used to win but then, doing this all the time significantly reduced my productivity and my chance to concentrate on other matters. As soon as I got my PowerBook with OS X on things became easier. I was a little bit apprehensive but found out that I could run all my Linux commands and software (through Fink) on it. That's it! I now solely run OS X and Windows. Now, I wanna try to eliminate Windows for my life. Will it be possible? Well let's see how it goes. Will post on the blog as soon as the switch has occured. ;-)
