Open Source software toaster

Hey,

this is really cool! I was walking around the university yesterday and guess what I find (still wonder why it was in such a hidden corner): a Freedom Toaster machine from the Mark Shuttleworth Foundation. I've been told about 2 weeks ago that we were going to get one of those, but I couldn't believe it was already here! I got so excited, I couldn't wait to toast the latest version of Ubuntu Linux onto a CD and try out the machine. Really cool toy I might say: touch screen, 3 DVD/CD toasters, very intuitive user interface. Although there are a few things that could be made better:
  • To use the cursor and click on anything on the screen, one has to use his/her finger to drag the mouse all the way to that button to click. It should have been something more like what works for PDAs: just touch and it clicks.
  • The burning speed was of 4.2 X. I think it should be much much faster. At least to keep backward compatibility with older machines 24 X.
But hey, it's the initiative that is great in the first place: Open Source for the nation!!! Yiiiihhaaa!

  1. Hmm I didn't find it necessary to drag the curso all the way to the menue buttons -just placed my finger slightly below whatever I wanted to click.

Also I got top writting speeds of 19.5 -did you burn more then one cd at the same time?

Anyways the freedom toaster rocks! I got the latest Ubuntu, Project
Gutenberg and Open Office off it.

Gonna go get myself FreeBSD rite now!
